Meet Danny Areces
SoMi Counseling Head of Coaching Programs
Daniel Areces holds a Master’s degree in Sport Psychology with a focus on Kinesiology from Adams State University. At SoMi Counseling, he serves as the Mental Skills Coach and is also a certified Executive Functioning Coach. In this role, Daniel supports individuals in strengthening key cognitive skills such as organization, time management, focus, and emotional regulation. He collaborates with clients to create personalized strategies that enhance executive functioning across various areas of life, including academics, sports, and everyday tasks.

Daniel specializes in helping athletes boost their mental performance through techniques designed to improve confidence, concentration, and resilience. These same principles are also applied to academic and professional settings, where he works with students and professionals to develop skills that support goal-setting, academic achievement, and effective study habits.

Since 2017, Daniel has served as the cross-country and track coach at Christopher Columbus High School, where he has led his teams to multiple county, district, and state titles. This experience adds depth to his coaching approach, enabling him to guide both athletes and non-athletes through mental and organizational challenges using strategies from both sport and executive function coaching.

As a former collegiate athlete and co-host of The Underground Running Project podcast, Daniel remains actively engaged in both the athletic and mental performance communities. He is passionate about building mental resilience and helping individuals of all ages strengthen their cognitive skills for success in every area of life.
